We finally closed on the house on Friday. It was a stressful time. We were so worried something would go wrong and screw up our plans. But it's all done now. We are officially homeless.
Saturday we sold two of our cars. We sold my minivan and Katie's Subaru. It was tough for her to sell her first car. I think she was a bit sad. Not surprisingly, not many people turn in their Subarus so we got a good price on her car. Yay!

Most of the last few weeks has been spent selling as much as we could. We sold most of our furniture and donated the rest. We saved a few prized possessions and put them in storage. Our 20 x 10 unit is stuffed to the ceiling. Our gymnast did a great job scaling our stuff and finding spots to stick everything.
As many of you know, I love to cook. Paring down all my spices, vinegars, grains, etc. I hate wasting food and can't just throw it out. So my neighbors really lucked out with tons of donations. I packed as much as I could and its still way too much. Unfortunately its all packed in the U-Haul or I'd add a pick. Maybe next post.
So we decided to slow down a bit and stay in Texas for 2 extra days. We were running ourselves ragged and really didn't need to. The boat is on the hard getting a new bottom so it'll be a few days until we can move aboard. We will head out Monday morning for our 2 day drive to the Florida west coast. Then we will the task of prepping her for her big voyage.
Due to covid we are being very flexible with our plans. If we make it around the world, fabulous. If we don't, we still get 2 amazing years with our kids on the water. 2020 is an amazing opportunity to teach our kids some lessons about being flexible and making the best out of what is thrown at you. As far as the south pacific, the latest I've read is FP is open to boaters. The have procedures in place but count your passage as your quarantine. Fiji is open with very specific rules as well. We are aware that Tonga is closed and of course respect their decision to do so. We hope that by next September, Austr…
It says you are trying to sail around the world before the kids go to college but one is already 17. I hate to be the negative person but that doesn't sound wise at this point. The South Pacific is still locked down as well as most other countries. Tonga will not be letting anybody in for a couple of years it looks like (my wife is Tongan so I know). FP is pretty restrictive too now as well as Fiji. It is possible to cross the south pacific now but those who I know that have done it did it in two legs (definitely not ideal).
