No Other Island Will Keep You Smiling Like Eleuthera

We left Spanish Wells on Monday, January 4th. We arrived at Current Cut for a crossing over to the main island of Eleuthera. Current Cut, as it's name suggests, is a narrow crossing with a ripping current. While a difficult crossing it saves a lot of time getting to Eleuthera. We arrived at the recommended time, 1.5 hours after Nassau high tide. Our passage was easy with about a 2 knot current carrying us along. The area is beautiful but a bit treacherous with sandbars and shallows all around. It does make for some very pretty water though. We finally got to fly the spinnaker. It's huge but it was light enough on the crossing to give it a try. Kate got to climb out on the spinnaker pole. She was not a fan.

We headed straight for Hatchett Bay, an anchorage with a tiny entrance but 360 degree protection once inside. There wasn't much on the bay and we'd only planned one night here, but our new friends from Spanish Wells arrived the next day. We decided to stay and check out the bay front cruiser bar, Farrington's. Emmett the owner has built a restaurant/bar, convenience store, and has plans for laundry and hair salon. A cruisers paradise. We enjoyed dinner and drinks at Farrington's while being serenaded by Emmett on his guitar. He had a new Christmas song out on CD and radio and we soon had his favorite song, No Other Island Will Keep You Smiling Like Eleuthera, stuck in our heads.

Our next stop was Governor's Harbour. Not much to see here, other than this beautiful sunset, and we quickly moved south to Rock Sound.

Rock Sound is a great bay with good protection all around. The town is on the east side and we anchored off Frigate's, a great bar with free wifi. We road out a big norther on the west side of the bay for a few days before returning to the east side. Bullet loved the beach on the west side. Lots of sand to dig in and roll around. He loves to run and play on the beach. Rock Sound also has the best grocery store I've seen in the Bahamas, outside of Nassau. A great place to provision and stock up on a lot of the specialty stuff we normally don't find in the islands.

We spent 5 days in Rock Sound catching up on laundry, school work, boat projects and mostly just hanging out waiting for our weather window to cross to the Exumas.

And yes, the song is still stuck in our heads weeks later.
